Hyderabad Unplug is a voluntary campaign urging Hyderabad's citizens to turn off lights and unplug electrical appliances for an hour on April 18, 2008 from 7.30 to 8.30 pm and thereby empathise with the climate crisis issue. It also aims to kindle awareness about global warming among the citizens and serving institutions of this city and inspires them to take a small step towards addressing the climate crisis by turning off the lights for an hour.
By mobilising households to participate in this event, we are enabling people to discuss about global warming. Homemakers who may have never known that electical appliances do contribute to climate crisis by way of greenhouse gas emission, will definitely prune their electrical appliance usage.
Also, this event highlights the fact that judicious usage of electricity within individual households will not only reduce the impact of global warming, but also saves lot of power on a mass scale that can be used in villages where there is less or no electricity.
